So You Made it to College, Now What?

You got the acceptance letter in the mail, and you are excited for this next chapter of your life, but have you thought about what happens after college? There are so many things you can do as a student to prepare for life after college.

Start Thinking About Your Post Undergrad Plans: The main two routes students will go is either straight into the work force or continue their education. Depending on which one you want to do, it can determine what path you take in your undergrad and what things you should consider.

Completing a Internship: Depending on what your major is, a internship can be so beneficial in gaining industry experience before even entering the industry. Lots of companies offer internships so they can help students learn in hands on environment where you can apply the knowledge you gained from you classes. It is never to early to start looking for a internship, but summer going into your junior or senior year is the most common.

Don’t Procrastinate: You may think, ‘I have so much time, I don’t need to think about this just yet’. But in reality, the earlier you think about what you want to do, the better. If you have a option to take electives inside your major, research when they are offered so you can plan out the electives you want to take so you can include specific ones on your resume. It is always good to start thinking about this as soon as possible.

Overall, it is important to think about what you are going to do after college so you can start preparing! If you need application materials for either future internships, jobs, or post undergrad education, stop into the Career and Advising Center for help on any of your documents!
