Resume Tip: Bullet Points

When listing any type of experience that you may have on a resume, make sure to add bulleted phrases to explain the tasks that you executed within a particular job or activity setting. The formula suggested to create an efficient bulleted phrase is Action Verb + Skill + Task = Result. Completing this formula helps guide individuals away from only listing their job duties performed.

For example, if you worked in a daycare setting, these would be samples to either put down or not put down:

  • Taught kids how to behave (Incorrect)
  • Guided young children to making right decisions and understanding their feelings by demonstrating the proper way to act (Correct)

It is suggested that for each experience you have completed or are currently partaking in to list 2-5 bullet points about your job tasks and roles that your learnt and accomplished.
