Career Conversations: How to reach out on LinkedIn

Sliding into someone’s DM’s and getting a full-time job. Two things you probably would not think are related, but these two things can actually work hand in hand. LinkedIn is a professional social media and great resource to use while you are trying to find a full-time job.

After you have narrowed down you job search to a few companies you are interested in LinkedIn is a good tool. To start you can find the company pages on LinkedIn and see what they are posting about. You can also see some of the people that are working at that company. Another great way to use LinkedIn is to find a professional in the role you are interested in and message them. The message can be simple just introducing yourself and asking if they would be willing to meet you or coffee to discuss both their role and the company. It can seem daunting to just reach out to a stranger, but most people are receptive when students reach out. They understand that you are still learning and trying to find the best fit for you.

So next time you think someone’s job sounds interesting, don’t hesitate to DM them!
