#NDSUintern Spotlight: Sahil Lohana

Company: University Of Missouri

Major: Biology with an emphasis in Biomedical Sciences

Location of Internship: Columbia , Missouri

Internship Title: Summer Intern

Why did you choose the company that you work for?

I was accepted to a translational biomedical Research Program and got the opportunity to do research in nanotechnology

What were some of the requirements for your internship?

Some requirements for this internship is to have Relevant Experience. I have been a part of a research group at NDSU since my freshmen year (September 2021) and that has prepared me for real life lab experience even outside of NDSU.

What is your favorite part about your internship experience?

My favorite part is getting to work with and learn from some exceptional scientists and explore a field I’ve always been curious about.

What is the most challenging part of your internship? How have you overcome these obstacles?

The most challenging part of my internship has been trying to understand, learn and apply science in only a time of two months is really challenging. I encourage myself to study about my project outside of my lab time and while at home so I can do my experiments while understanding them.

How did you find your internship?

The internship coordinator reached out to me with this available opportunity after seeing me present at the American Physiological Society Conference of 2023

What advice would you give a student who is in the process of searching and applying for an internship?

Apply for internships that you find interesting, the worst they can say is no. For me throughout my science career, I have valued practical lab experience over grades. My goal is to focus on learning and understanding the science that I am interesting in to its fullest and that’s what made my application strong
