The Office of Advancement at the University of Missouri is seeking a motivated and collaborative development professional to lead the advancement efforts for Mizzou’s Division of Student Affairs. The Division of Student Affairs is committed to designing exceptional out-of-classroom learning experiences and to improving the quality and cost of our programs – ultimately helping Mizzou students succeed on campus and after graduation. As a member of this team, you’ll have the opportunity to directly impact the student experience, while working with generous alumni and friends. This position reports to the Director of Advancement for University Libraries and Campus Programs.
Responsible for major and annual gift solicitations to support priorities established by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Working closely with the VC for Student Affairs and Student Affairs leadership, this position must identify and market impact opportunities for gifts of all sizes, from annual fund to transformational.
Develop and deliver 12+ major gift proposals ($50K+) and accompanying letters and proposal materials.
Follow up on use of funding and work with Student Affairs communication staff to document gift impact and develop effective ways to disseminate impact stories to prospects and donors.
Work with Prospect Development to identify alumni with an inclination for student affairs philanthropy and manage a dynamic portfolio of 100+ donors who wish to invest in the student experience beyond the classroom.
Work with Foundation and Corporate Relations to identify organizational sponsors for Student Health and Wellbeing, Alternative Spring Break, Tiger Pantry and other highly visible programs that elevate the student experience.
Facilitate the development of a major donor pipeline through a robust annual fund and thoughtful stewardship program that creates a sense of belonging while demonstrating philanthropic impact.
Initiate appropriate cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities through personal visits (including overnight and weekend travel), as well as other direct communications.
Write contact reports, status and strategies for each donor/prospect in the appropriate form.
Work with Regional Advancement and Planned Giving to ensure that advancement staff in those units are aware of giving opportunities in Student Affairs.
Develop strategies and materials to support annual fund outreach, including Mizzou Giving Day activities and annual fund mailings, and stewardship that is appropriate for annual fund level giving.
Successful productivity will be measured by metrics developed each year in consultation with the position’s direct supervisor. It is expected that those goals will fall within the range established by University Advancement for advancement officers. They are as follows:
Minimum $500K – $1M raised
12-18 proposals presented; 7-15 closed
125-200 substantive written communication (email/letter/text)
125-150 substantive visit; including 20-50 evaluation visits (phone/virtual/in person)
During the first fiscal year, this position will have less than 12 months to meet goals and will be working with a limited portfolio. Additionally, there will be significant work to fully develop giving opportunities. Quarterly meetings will be held to assess productivity, set and modify goals, and ensure a successful first year on the job.

A four-year degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
A minimum of 2 years fundraising experience or equivalent transferable skills showing an understanding of the development model, i.e. pursuing and cultivating donors, customers, or business relationships. Personal experience as a student or staff in areas covered by the Division of Student Affairs.
$47,476 – $70,000 Annually
8 – 5 Monday thru Friday, Some nights and weekend and regular travel
