Earn college credit, free. COE paid internships. Job placement assistance for graduating seniors.
Students accepted into the Center of Excellence Scholarship and Internship program will take poultry focused classes from May 17 – June 25. After completing six weeks of classes, students earn 9 credits which transfer to their home university. Up to 32 scholarships are awarded, including full and partial scholarships. Classes are anticipated to be in-person at University of Minnesota; on-campus housing is included.
After summer classes end, before school begins again, COE students participate in poultry based internships. Internships are completed with MPC sponsors, which are major poultry companies. The internships run 6–10 weeks long, depending on the student’s school schedule. All internships are paid, if needed, housing is provided. Many students complete an internship in areas of live production or processing. Other internships have focused on food safety, marketing, and sales. COE students on a full scholarship are required to do an internship and internships are coordinated on their behalf.
Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate, B.A. or B.S. earning degree program, and must pass a college level chemistry course before May 16, 2021 (may apply if you are enrolled in chemistry for spring 2022).
Past experience with poultry is not required.
Successful applicants will have an interest in production animal management or processing/food science. Experience in 4H or FFA or college based poultry or production animal clubs is a plus.
