JOB SUMMARY
Under the administrative direction of the Recreation Coordinator, performs a wide variety of functions in the area of recreation programming. Assists the Coordinator to plan, coordinate and oversee recreation programs.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Examples of Essential Job Functions
- Assists in the planning, implementation, and supervision of recreational activities and events, and staff. Provides guidance to subordinates regarding planning, scheduling, and assignment of duties within all leisure service areas.
- Monitors assigned programs for safe and efficient operation. Interacts with program participants and seeks feedback.
- Oversees lesson or program plans (activities, crafts, field trips, guest speakers).
- Completes and enters program registrations. Assist with daily records, attendance sheets, incident reports, and accident reports.
- Assist in scheduling and evaluation of staff and volunteers.
- Assist in the supervision of recreation facilities.
- Handles public concerns, problems or suggestions in a calm and professional manner.
- Creates promotional items and materials. Assists as needed for the purchasing of supplies for recreation programs.
- Regular attendance is essential for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to think logically and follow written, verbal or diagrammatic instructions and to solve problems with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Knowledge of the facilities and proper use of recreation and other equipment.
- Ability to help supervise and interact with recreation participants.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers and the public; ability to tactfully address a wide array of social situations.
- Knowledge of safety precautions and regulations regarding recreation programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Required
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Education Preferred
- BA/BS or in pursuit thereof preferred.
Experience Desired
- Any work in recreation facilities preferred.
- Experience working with children.
Required Special Qualifications
- Possess or be able to obtain a valid Iowa Driver License and have a good driving record for the past three years.
- First Aid and CPR is required. City of Clive will offer First Aid and CPR training if the employee does not currently possess either.
- Must be 18 years of age.

Physical Characteristics of the Job
Medium work exerting up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force frequently.
Environmental Characteristics
The work is performed both inside and outside and includes seasonal exposure to heat and cold. The work may expose the employee to unpleasant social situations, significant work pace pressures and irregular work hours.
Equipment and Materials Used
Various recreation and sports equipment, Network computer including keyboard, monitor, mouse, and printer, copy machine, photographic equipment, calculator, thermometers, potentially hazardous chemicals, general office equipment, MSDS information, mobile radio, cell phone, fax machine, various sports rules and policies.
