How should I prepare for Meet the Firms?
Have your resume critiqued at the Career and Advising Center, attend a career prep workshop (view Calendar of Events for more information), research attending companies you’re interested in, view and apply to said companies’ open positions on CAREERLINK, and practice your conversation starter.
Why should I attend Meet the Firms?
This fair is specifically for students interested in accounting and accountancy careers. Some reasons to attend include finding an internship or full-time position in accounting, look into different career options, and network with potential employers.
Why come to the fair if employers ask me to apply online?
At Meet the Firms, you will come across some companies that only accept applications online. Even if an employer can’t accept your resume in person, you still have the chance to meet and network with representatives. Students whom only submit their application online don’t have that opportunity.
How can I find out which companies will attend?
You can find a list of employers who will be attending the fair under the “Participating Employers” link on the previous page.
Where do I find information about the employers I am interested in meeting with?
View the list of participating employers found on the previous screen or on our app. You can view the positions they are hiring for, which majors and degrees they are seeking, and company website.
Do I need to register to attend Meet the Firms?
Student registration is not required for any career fair sponsored by the NDSU Career and Advising Center.
Who can attend the fair?
This event is open to students interested in accounting and accountancy careers from the following universities: NDSU, Concordia, MSUM, Valley City, Jamestown, Dickinson, Minot, Mary, U of M – Morris, Bemidji and Southwest State. Bring your student ID and resume. NDSU alumni are also invited to attend this event.
How do I make a good first impression?
Approach an employer by yourself (vs. with a group of friends). Make sure to smile, be confident, make eye contact, and use a firm handshake. Demonstrate that you researched the employer and practiced your conversation starter.
What should I bring to Meet the Firms?
A student ID is required for admittance. Bring more paper copies of your resume than you think you’ll need. Don’t forget to get your resume critiqued by the Career and Advising Center. It also helps to bring the resumes in a padfolio so you have a pen and paper to take notes if needed.
How should I dress?
Business professional attire is required for this fair. For women, this includes a suit or a blouse and dress pants/knee-length skirt, simple jewelry and makeup, and closed-toe shoes. For men, this includes a conservative tie, a suit or long-sleeved collared shirt/dress pants, and polished shoes. If you have specific questions please refer to our Dress to Impress resource page, or stop by for an opinion from our Career and Advising Center staff!
