Why did you choose the company you work for?

I chose to pursue my internship at OUHSC because of its reputation in healthcare research and education. The institution offers a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment, which aligns well with my academic background and professional goals. I have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through meaningful projects and to learn from experts who are actively contributing to advancements in health sciences.

What were some requirements for your internship?

Some of the requirements for my internship at OUHSC included having a strong academic background in pharmaceutical sciences and laboratory skills. My tasks involve assisting with ongoing research projects, performing laboratory techniques such as molecular biology assays, tissue processing, and statistical analysis. These responsibilities are helping me gain valuable hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of translational research practices.

What is your favorite part about your internship experience?

My favorite part of my internship has been the opportunity to contribute to meaningful research in a professional academic setting. Working alongside experienced researchers and faculty has been incredibly insightful, and I have gained a better understanding of how collaborative efforts drive processes in pharmaceutical research.

What is the most challenging part of your internship? How have you overcome these obstacles?

One of the most challenging parts of my internship is adapting to the fast-paced research environment while managing multiple tasks such as data collection, and assisting with other lab responsibilities. To overcome this, I focused on improving my time management skills and started organizing my tasks. I also made it a point to actively communicate with my mentors whenever I needed clarification. Their guidance and feedback helped me stay on track and gain confidence in handling complex assignments more efficiently.

Why was it beneficial for you to register for academic credit through the Internship Program offered through the Career and Advising Center?

Registering for credit through the Internship Program was beneficial because it allowed me to gain academic recognition for my practical experience while staying connected with faculty support and structured guidance throughout the internship.

What advice would you give a student who is in the process of searching and applying for an internship? 

My advice to others is to be proactive, and persistent towards the process. Start early by identifying your areas of interest and tailoring your resume and cover letter to each opportunity. Don’t hesitate to reach out to professors, peers, or professionals in the field for guidance or referrals. What helped me the most was being clear about my goals and how the internship aligned with my career path.
