Why did you choose the company you work for?
I really resonate with Horizon’s core values – they reflect the way I work and interact with both team members and customers. It’s rewarding to be part of a company that truly lives out its mission.
What were some requirements for your internship?
At Horizon Resources Co-op, I monitor grain markets, develop pricing strategies, and work directly with farmers to discuss contract options. I focus on helping producers make informed marketing decisions while building strong, trust-based relationships that support their profitability and success.
What is your favorite part about your internship experience?
My favorite part of the internship is the people – both the customers and my coworkers. I truly feel like I’m part of something special, and that sense of community has made this experience incredibly meaningful.
What is the most challenging part of your internship? How have you overcome these obstacles?
The hardest part of my internship has been trying to anticipate market movements. In such a volatile environment, it can be challenging to predict what the markets will do next – but that’s also what makes it exciting and a great learning experience.

Why was it beneficial for you to register for academic credit through the Internship Program offered through the Career and Advising Center?
Registering for credit through the Internship Program was beneficial because it allowed me to showcase my field experience in a formal way. It also helped me to stay accountable, reflect on my progress, and earn academic credit for hands-on learning.
What advice would you give a student who is in the process of searching and applying for an internship?
Look in more than one place and don’t be afraid to talk to employers directly. Building connections and showing genuine interest can go a long way. What helped me most was reaching out, asking questions, and staying open to opportunities-even ones I did not originally consider.
