#NDSUintern Spotlight: Grace Haugen

Company: Emerson Automation Solutions

Internship Title: Manufacturing Engineer Intern

Location of Internship: Shakopee, MN

Why did you choose the company you work for?

I chose Emerson because of the numerous opportunities, it provided me a chance to network with professionals in my field and grow my skills as an engineer.

What were some requirements for your internship?

  • Microsoft Applications
  • Willingness to Learn

What is your favorite part about your internship experience?

My favorite part of my internship experience is working alongside a team of engineers to solve real-world problems.

What is the most challenging part of your internship? How have you overcome these obstacles?

Understanding someone’s ideas with no visuals to help understand their thoughts has been the most challenging part of my internship. In order to overcome this, I have asked them to sketch their ideas or show me the physical process or product they are describing.

How did you find your internship?

Through a Career Fair or Career Expo at NDSU. My advice to students going to career fairs is to talk to any business there. They can help you gain insights into potential career paths in your chosen field.

Why was it beneficial for you to register for academic credit through the Internship Program offered through the Career and Advising Center?

Getting credits for my internship through the Career and Advising Center has helped me to achieve my desired graduation date.

What advice would you give a student who is in the process of searching and applying for an internship?

Do not be discouraged if you are not selected to interview for the internships you apply for.
