Why did you choose the company you work for?
I chose Medical Pharmacy South because it offers valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced retail pharmacy setting. It’s a great environment to develop my communication, technical, and patient care skills before starting pharmacy school. This internship supports my long-term goal of becoming a knowledgeable and compassionate pharmacist.
What were some requirements for your internship?
Some of the requirements for my internship included obtaining a pharmacy intern license through the state board, which was essential before starting work. I also had to complete safety and compliance training to ensure I understood proper handling of medications and patient information. My tasks include assisting with filling prescriptions, counting and labeling medications, organizing patient charts, cashiering, and answering phone calls to help patients with refills or medication-related questions.
What is your favorite part about your internship experience?
My favorite part about my internship experience is the supportive and friendly team I get to work with every day, they make the environment welcoming and enjoyable. I also love getting familiar with the tasks and responsibilities I’ll have in my future career as a pharmacist, which makes me feel more prepared and confident. Overall, I’m learning so much in a positive environment that motivates me to keep growing.
What is the most challenging part of your internship? How have you overcome these obstacles?
The most challenging part of my internship has been learning to navigate insurance issues and pharmacy computer systems, which can be complex and time-consuming. I’ve been overcoming these obstacles by asking questions, taking notes, and practicing regularly to become more confident and efficient. Occasionally, I also deal with impatient patients though it is very rare, and I have learned to stay calm, listen carefully, and respond professionally to help resolve their concerns.
