NDSU Career and Advising Center – Student Spotlight

Grent Ellis Canete

Major: Civil Engineering
Graduation Date: December 2025

Attending the NDSU career expos is non negotiable for Grent Ellis Canete. Over the past two years, he’s had valuable growth opportunities suitable for any experience level or year in school during four expos.

“Career expos are incredible resources for students no matter your major. It’s easily one of the best ways to network with multiple employers as well as discover and explore the types of opportunities your degree path offers,” he said.

Career expos are a great way to gain and practice valuable skills that students will use the rest of their personal and professional careers. One of Canete’s top priorities has been practicing questions for employers seeking standout candidates. “Knowing what questions to ask as well as how to deliver them can be a difficult task for newer college students,” he said.

The large variety of employers from multiple companies helps build connection skills with different personalities. Canete said he prepares his resume to stick out from others, tries to perfect questions he wants to ask potential employers and enters each interaction with confidence and self-worth.

Canete is set to graduate in the fall of 2025 with a degree in civil engineering.
