From an NDSU Career Expo attendee to a full-time engineer at Marvin, NDSU alumni Austin Rinke demonstrates how utilizing the Career and Advising Center’s resources can lead to major career milestones. Starting his career path as a freshman, Rinke attended the career expos every year, right after receiving his first “save the date” email. He saw this as an opportunity to put himself out there and make professional connections within the industry.
Rinke took advantage of the resources available to him by researching companies on Handshake, NDSU’s online job board, prior to each fair. With over 250 companies in attendance, Marvin quickly stood out to him as a potential employer. He knew that it was the right fit after speaking with the representatives. “I think it was the people for me that I met during the interview process at the career expo. It just seemed like that’s who I want to work with,” Rinke said.
Rinke quickly became enthusiastic about his work and future goals at Marvin. He is excited to learn more and is trying to absorb as much information as he can each day. “I am excited to solve the problems that do come up for the benefit of other people. I think that’s what allows me to be motivated every day,” Rinke said.
Rinke offers valuable advice for students preparing for the career fair: 1. Practice your elevator pitch. 2. Get ready to answer questions. 3. Dress professionally. “Being able to express myself professionally at the career fair was such a good experience to have,” he said.
Rinke started a full-time position with Marvin after his December 2024 graduation.
