#NDSUintern Spotlight: Oluwaseyi Oginni

Major: Business Analytics Company: Michael Foods, Inc. – Location of Internship: Minnetonka, MN – Internship Title: IT Business Intelligence Intern

  • Why did you choose the company that you work for?
    • I choose this company because of their company culture, structure, and opportunity to learn with real-time business challenges.
  • What were some of the requirements for your internship?
    • A few requirements were to be creative with problem solving, know data analytics, and research various types of visual elements.
  • What is your favorite part about your internship experience?
    • Being at the fore-front of helping the business create business performance dashboards in Tableau which is new to most of the IT team. Over the years, the team used SAP BEX Query Analyzer and SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • What is the most challenging part of your internship? How have you overcome these obstacles?
    • Working with the in-house data warehouse, had issues with connecting with the Business Warehouse via Tableau and we have little expertise within the IT Team. It was challenging and frustrating. I had to go online, read reviews, ask questions in Tableau Community with the information i was able to get from chats with my supervisor and different people on the IT team (great people). I found the right answers online, applied it and was able to complete the tasks at hand.
  • How did you find your internship?
    • Through own self-guided research
  • Why was it beneficial for you to register for credit(s) through the Internship Program offered through the Career and Advising Center?
    • First is the invaluable experience and secondly elective units.
  • What advice would you give a student who is in the process of applying for an internship?
    • Do your due diligence with your resume and cover letter. Be prepared for a lot of rejection emails, but never give up. Keep on applying with intention, and when the right opportunity comes, give the interview your very best.
