Networking with Employers after a Career Fair

A lot of the blog posts lately have been about what to do before the career fairs, however, it is not just what happens during the career fairs that is important, but also what you do after the career fairs. Staying connected with employers is a great way to work on your networking skills and keep in touch for when you are ready to complete an internship or for a full-time job search.  Here are a few important tips to really consider:

  1. Reflect on your experience at the Career Fair.  Think about what went well and what didn’t to help yourself improve your skills.  Ask yourself:
    1. Did I prepare well enough?
      1. What went well?
      2. What can I improve upon?
    2. How smooth was my 30 second elevator pitch?
    3. Was my Resume current effective?
      1. Did I get any feedback on how to improve it?
    4. Did I research the company enough to be able to speak and ask questions intelligibly about it?
  2. Consider writing a note to an employer you met at the career fair reminding them of who you are and thanking them for their time while at the fair. This will make you stand out a lot more from others they interacted with at the fair, and helps you stay connected with their company.
  3. Make sure you have an updated LinkedIn profile.  This will allow you to become connected with the employer you met and follow their company in order to stay up to date on news and updates they might post.
